Changed the tree of probation into a tree of temptation. II. THE FATAL TRANSGRESSION. Eve hesitated, and was drawn into the tempter's net. Then sin reproduces sin. III. THE SAD DISCOVERY. Innocence gone: in its place was shame. LESSONS: 1. To obey God's word, even when it contradicts our own inclinations. 2. To be humble and patient, waiting God's time and will, as to His "secret things." 3. To refuse to listen to temptation from without, and to evil lusts in ourselves. (W. S. Smith, B. D.)
