Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought… forbade his disciples to pray for themselves, because they knew not what was expedient. Socrates more wisely taught his disciples to pray simply for good things, the gods knowing best what sort of things are good. But better illustrations are found in Paul's own expression (Philippians 1:22, 3); and in that of our Lord (John 12:27, 28). (Archdeacon Gifford.) Parallel Verses KJV: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. |
