Galatians 1:15-16 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,… No man must rest satisfied with merely human teaching. In its proper place such teaching is most valuable. But it is not all that is required. There is a sense in which each Christian ought to be able to say, "I conferred not with flesh and blood" — "I felt the necessity of higher teaching than that of man; I knew that there were endowments which flesh and blood could not bestow upon me; I sought them directly from God." There is doubtless a spirit of independence which is a spirit of pride; but there is an independence of man which is the independence of humility — an independence which is so conscious of the inadequacy of everything human to satisfy the longings of the soul, that it can only carry its great need to a source which is Divine.
