1And I watched as the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice that sounded like thunder, “Come!” 2And I looked and saw a white horse; and its rider held a bow; and a crown was given to him; and he went forth as a conqueror bent on conquest. 3And when the Lamb had opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4And then another horse appeared that was red; and power was given to its rider to take peace from the earth, and to cause people to kill one another; and a great sword was given to him. 5And when the Lamb had opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” And I looked up, and saw a black horse; and its rider held a pair of balances (scales) in his hand. 6And I heard a voice from among the four living creatures say, “A measure of wheat for a denarius, and three measures of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” 7And when the Lamb had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8And I looked and, before me was a pale horse, and its rider was named “Death”, and Hades (the grave) followed close behind him. And they were given power over one fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth. 9And when He had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God, and for the testimony they faithfully held. 10And they called out with a loud voice, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those that dwell on the earth?” 11And then white robes were given to each of them; and they were told that they should wait yet a little longer, until their fellow servants - their brothers and sisters, were killed, just as they had been. 12And I watched as He opened the sixth seal; and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of goat hair, and the moon turned blood red (Is.13:10); 13And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, like a fig tree drops her untimely figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. (Is. 34:4) 14And the heavens were rolled up like rolling up a scroll; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15And then the kings of the earth, the great men - the wealthy, influential and powerful, as well as every slave, and free man, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, 16And they called to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him Who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb! (Is.2:10) 17For the great day of Their wrath has come; and who can withstand it?” Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser. Used by Permission. All rights Reserved.
