A Song or Psalm of David. On the conquest of Edom by Joab 1O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise with all my soul. 2Awake, lyre and harp; I, myself will awaken early. 3I will praise You, O LORD, among the peoples; and I will sing praises unto You among the nations. 4For Your mercy is great, higher than the heavens; and Your truth reaches to the clouds. 5May You be exalted, O God, above the heavens; and Your glory above all the earth; 6That Your beloved may be rescued; answer and save me by Your right hand. 7God has spoken from His sanctuary: “In triumph will I joyfully parcel out Shechem, and measure off the valley of Succoth. 8Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is My helmet; Judah is My lawgiver (scepter); 9But Moab is My washbasin; I wipe My shoes on Edom; over Philistia will I shout in triumph.” 10Who will bring me into the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom? 11Is it not You, O God, Who has rejected us? And will You, O God, no longer go forth with our army? 12Give us aid against our enemy; for vain is the help of man. 13But with God we shall gain the victory; for He It is Who shall tread down our enemies.
