1After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the sepulcher (tomb). 2And there was a violent earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the tomb opening, and sat upon it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes as white as snow; 4And for fear of him, the tomb guards trembled, and fell into a dead faint. 5And the angel said to the women, “Fear not; for I know that you seek Jesus, Who was crucified. 6He is not here; for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7And then go quickly, and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and that He is going ahead of you into Galilee; you shall see Him there. See, I have told you.” 8And the women hurried from the tomb, fearful, yet with great joy, and ran to tell His disciples. 9And as they were going, suddenly Jesus met them, and said, “Greetings!” And they came and grasped His feet, and worshipped Him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go tell My brothers to go into Galilee, and there they shall see Me.” 11Now while the women were on their way, some of the tomb guards went into the city, and told the chief priests all that had occurred. 12And when the chief priests had met and conferred with the elders, they gave the soldiers (guards) a large bribe, 13And told them, “Say, ‘His disciples came by night, and stole Him away while we slept’. 14And if the governor hears that story, we will intercede and protect you from any punishment.” 15So they took the bribe money, and did as they were instructed; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews even until this day. 16Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, to a mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him; but some harbored doubts. 18Then Jesus came and told them, “All power and authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go, teach and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20Teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you; and, surely, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.” Amen.
