1And as Jesus was leaving the Temple, His disciples came to call His attention to the buildings of the Temple. 2And Jesus said to them, “Do you see all these things? Truly I tell you that not one stone shall be left upon another, that will not be thrown down.” 3And as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when shall these things happen? And what shall be the sign of Your returning, and of the end of the age?” 4And Jesus answered, “Take heed that no man deceives you. 5For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am Christ’ (the Messiah); and shall deceive many. 6And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see to it that you are not alarmed; for all these events must occur, but the end is not yet. 7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes, in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pangs, with more to come. 9Then shall they hand you over to be persecuted, and put to death; and you shall be hated by people all over the world for My name’s sake. 10At that time, many shall turn away from the faith, and shall betray one another, and shall hate each other. 11And many false prophets shall appear, and deceive many. 12And because of the increased evil, the love of many shall grow cold. 13But those that endure (stand firm) to the end shall be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness to all nations; and then shall the end come.” 15“So when you see standing in the holy place the abomination of desolation, as spoken of by Daniel (Danial 9:27), the prophet (let the reader understand), 16Then let those who are in Judaea flee into the mountains; 17Let no one who is on a housetop come down into their house to take anything out of there; 18Nor let anyone who is in the field come back to get his clothes. 19And how terrible it will be for those who are with child, and mothers that are nursing in those days! 20But pray that your flight is not in the winter, nor on the Sabbath; 21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be again. 22And unless those calamitous days are shortened, there should no one survive; but for the sake of the elect, those days shall be shortened. 23Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is Christ, or there’; do not believe it. 24For there shall arise false Messiahs (christs); and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive even God’s very elect (His chosen ones). 25See, I have told you ahead of time. 26 So, if anyone tells you, ‘Behold, he is in the desert’; do not go out looking; or ‘He is hiding in private rooms’; do not believe it. 27For as the lightning that comes out of the east is visible even in the west; so shall be the coming of the Son of man be. 28For wherever there is a carcass, there will the vultures be gathered. 29“Immediately after the distress of those days the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give its light, and the stars shall fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken; 30And then the sign of the Son of man shall appear in heaven; and then shall all the people of the earth mourn, when they see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31And He shall send His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they shall gather His elect together from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32Now learn from this parable of the fig tree: When its branches bud and put out leaves, you know that summer is near; 33Even so, when you shall see all these things, know that it is near, at the very door. 34Truly I tell you, this generation shall not pass away until all these things are fulfilled. 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall never pass away. 36But of that day and hour no one knows - no, not even the angels of heaven - but only My Father.” 37“But as it was in the days of Noah, so shall the coming of the Son of man be also. 38For as in the days before the flood, people were eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, right up until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39And they knew nothing until the flood came, and swept them all away; that is also how the coming of the Son of man shall be. 40Then two shall be in the field; one shall be taken, and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding at the mill; one shall be taken, and the other left.” 42“Be watchful, therefore; for you do not know at what hour your Lord will come. 43But understand this: if the homeowner had known exactly when the burglar would come, he would have been on guard, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44So you must always be ready; for the Son of man will come in the hour you least expect it. 45Who, then, is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master has appointed head of his household, to feed the household at the proper time? 46Blessed is that servant that his master finds doing just that, when he comes unexpectedly. 47Truly I say to you, that he shall promote that servant, and give him more authority over all he has. 48But if that servant is evil, and shall say in his heart, ‘My lord delays his coming’ 49And he begins to abuse his fellow servants, while he parties with drunkards; 50When his master comes at a time when he does not expect him, and finds him abusing his authority, 51He shall cut him to pieces, and consign him to the place of hypocrites; where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser.
