1And the LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and tell them: ‘There shall no priest be defiled for the dead among his people: 2Except for his close relatives, that is: for his mother, father, son, daughter, brother, 3Or for his sister who is a virgin, that is near to him, and has had no husband; for her he may be defiled. 4But he shall not defile himself for those related to him by marriage. 5Priests shall not shave their head, nor shall they trim the corners of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh. 6They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for they do offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God: therefore, they shall be holy. 7They shall not take a wife that is a harlot, or profane; nor shall they take a woman divorced by her husband: for the priest is holy unto his God. 8You shall sanctify him therefore; for he offers the bread of your God: he shall be holy to you: for I, the LORD, Who sanctifies you, am holy. 9And the daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the harlot, she has profaned her father: she shall be burned with fire. 10‘And anyone who is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and who is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor tear his clothes; 11Nor shall he enter a place where there is any dead body, not even for his father, or his mother; 12Nor shall he leave nor profane the sanctuary, the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD. 13And he shall marry only a virgin. 14He shall not take widow, a divorced or profane woman, or a harlot, for his wife: but he shall only take a virgin of his own people to be his wife. 15He must not profane his offspring among his people: for I, the LORD do sanctify him.'” 16And the LORD said to Moses, 17“Speak to Aaron, and say, ‘None of your descendants, throughout their generations, that has any blemish shall approach to offer the bread of his God. 18No man who has a blemish shall approach - a blind or lame man, or one who has a flat nose, or anything superfluous, 19Or a man that is broken-footed, or broken-handed, 20Or crookbacked, or a dwarf, or that has a blemish in his eye, or is scurvy, or scabbed, or has his stones broken; 21No man of the ancestors of Aaron, the priest, who has a blemish, shall come near to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he has a blemish; he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God. 22He may eat the bread of his God, of both the most holy, and of the holy. 23But he shall not enter through the veil, or come near the altar, because he has a blemish; so that he does not profane My sanctuaries: for I, the LORD, sanctify them.’” 24And Moses told this to Aaron, his sons, and all the Israelites.
