1Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD, his God, from within the fish's belly, 2And said, “In my affliction I called unto the LORD, and You heard me; out of the belly of sheol (grave) I cried, and You heard my cry. 3For You had thrown me into the deep, in the depths of the seas; and the floods swirled all about me; all Your billows and Your waves swept over me. 4Then I said, ‘I am banished from Your sight; yet I will look again toward Your holy Temple.’ 5The waters engulfed me, and threatened my soul; the depths closed around me, the seaweed was wrapped around my head. 6I sank down to the very bottoms of the mountains; the earth beneath me enclosed me forever; and yet, You, O LORD, have brought my life up from pit of corruption. 7When my life was ebbing away within me, I remembered You, LORD; and my prayer came to You, into Your holy Temple. 8Those that cling to false gods and worthless idols forsake their own mercy (God ‘s love). 9But with shouts of grateful praise, I will sacrifice unto You with thanksgiving; I will say what I have vowed: ‘Salvation is of the LORD.’” 10And then the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.
