1This is the list of the Jewish exiles of the province whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had carried off to Babylon; who now returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own city, from captivity. 2Those who came with Zerubbabel were: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The number of the men of Israel who returned from exile: 3The descendants of Parosh were 2,172; 4Those of Shephatiah were 372; 5Those of Arah were 775; 6Those of Pahath-moab, (through the line of Jeshua and Joab), 2,812; 7Those of Elam, 1,254; 8Those of Zattu, 945; 9Those of Zaccai, 760; 10Those of Bani, 642; 11Those of Bebai, 623; 12Those of Azgad, 1,222; 13Those of Adonikam, 666; 14Those of Bigvai, 2,056; 15Those of Adin, 454; 16Those of Ater of Hezekiah, 98; 17Those of Bezai, 323; 18Those of Jorah, 112; 19Those of Hashum, 223; 20Those of Gibbar, 95; 21Those of Bethlehem, 123; 22Of Netophah, 56; 23Of Anathoth, 128; 24Of Azmaveth, 42; 25Of Kiriath-arim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, 743; 26Of Ramah and Geba, 621; 27Of Michmas, 122. 28Of Bethel and Ai, 223; 29Of Nebo, 52; 30Of Magbish, 156: 31Of the other Elam: 1,254: 32Of Harim, 320; 33Of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, 725; 34Of Jericho, 345; 35Of Senaah, 3,630. 36The priests: descendants of Jedaiah, through the family of Jeshua, 973; 37Of Immer, 1,052; 38Of Pashhur, 1,247; 39Of Harim, 1,017. 40The Levites: Those descended from of Jeshua and Kadmiel, of the sons of Hodaviah were 74. 41The singers (musicians): Those of Asaph, 128. 42The Temple gatekeepers: descendants of Shallum, Ater, Talmon, Akkub, Hatita, and Shobai, in all 139. 43The Nethinim (the temple servants): the descendants of Ziha, Hasupha, Tabbaoth, 44Of Keros, Siaha, Padon, 45Of Lebanah, Hagabah, Akkub, 46Of Hagab, Shamlai, Hanan, 47Of Giddel, Gahar, Reaiah, 48Of Rezin, Nekoda, Gazzam, 49Of Uzza, Paseah, Besai, 50Of Asnah, Meunim, Nephusim, 51Of Bakbuk, Hakupha, Harhur, 52Of Bazluth, Mehida, Harsha, 53Of Barkos, Sisera, Temah, 54Of Neziah, Hatipha. 55The descendants of (King) Solomon's servants: the sons of Sotai, Hassophereth (Sophereth), Peruda, 56The sons of Jaalah, Darkon, Giddel, 57The sons of Shephatiah, Hattil, Pochereth of Zebaim (Pochereth-hazzebaim), Ami. 58All the Nethinim (temple servants), and the sons of Solomon's servants, totaled 392. 59These are they who came from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer; but could not show evidence of their father's household, and their descendancy, to show that they were of Israel: 60The sons of Delaiah, Tobiah, Nekoda, 652. 61And of the sons of the priests: the descendants of Habaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai; who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai, the Gileadite, and was called by their name: 62These searched for their family registration among those who were reckoned by genealogy, but were not found; therefore they were excluded from the priesthood as ceremonially unclean. 63And the Tirshatha (governor) told them that they should not eat of the most holy things, until a priest stood up with Urim and with Thummim (and by consulting these articles in his breastplate, could determine God’s will in the matter). 64The whole congregation returning to Judah totaled 42,360, 65Besides their male and female servants, of whom there were 7,337; and among them were 200 men and women singers. 66They had a total of 736 horses and 245 mules; 67435 camels, and 6,720 donkeys. 68And when they arrived at the Temple of the LORD at Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave freewill offerings toward the rebuilding the house of God on its old foundation: 69According to their ability, they gave to the treasury for this work 61,000 gold coins (darics, about 1,355 pounds) of gold, 5,000 minas of silver, and 100 priestly (linen) garments. 70So the priests, Levites, and some of the people, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim (temple servants), settled in their own cities, and the rest of the Israelites settled into their towns.
