1And then this word of the LORD came to me, 2“Son of man, turn and face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them, 3And say, ‘You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD God: “This is what the Sovereign God says to the mountains, hills, rivers, and valleys: ‘Behold, I, even I, am about to bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. 4Your altars shall be demolished, and your idol images shall be broken; and I will slay your men before your idols. 5And I will lay the dead bodies of the Israelites before their idols; and I will scatter your bones around your altars. 6Wherever you live, the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be demolished, so that your altars are smashed and made desolate, your idols destroyed, your images cut down, and the works of your hands abolished. 7And your people shall fall slain among you, and you shall know that I, alone, am the LORD. 8‘But I will leave a remnant, that shall escape the sword, when you are scattered throughout the lands and the nations. 9And those of you that escape among the nations to which you are carried captives shall remember Me, how I have been grieved by their adulterous hearts, when they have turned from Me, and by their eyes, which doted like a harlot upon their idols; and they shall loathe themselves for the evils which they have committed with all their abominations. 10And they shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have not threatened in vain; that I would bring this punishment upon them’. 11“The Sovereign God says: ‘Clap your hands together, stamp your feet, and say, “Alas, for all the evil abominations of the people of Israel! For they shall perish by the sword, famine, and pestilence. 12Those far away shall die of the plague, and those that are near shall die by the sword, and the ones that remain and are besieged shall die from starvation; thus will I pour out My fury upon them. 13Then shall you know that I am the LORD, when your slain men shall lie among their idols around the altars, on every high hill, on the tops of the mountains, under every green tree, and under every thick oak, those places where they offered sweet incense to all their idols. 14So I will stretch out My hand against them, and make the land desolate, yea, more desolate than the wilderness toward Diblah - wherever they live; and they shall know that I am the LORD.”’”’” Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser.
