1And in the spring, the time when kings go out to battle, Joab led the army out, and ravaged the country of the Ammonites, and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. And Joab captured Rabbah, and destroyed it. 2And David took the crown from the head of their king, and found it weighed a talent (about 65 pounds) of gold, plus the precious stones in it; and they set it upon David's head. And he also took great quantities of plunder out of Rabbah. 3And he brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws, iron picks and axes. David dealt with all the cities of the Ammonites in this way. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem. 4Later, there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines, at which time Sibbecai, the Hushathite, slew Sippai, one of the descendants of the giants; and the Philistines were subdued. 5In another battle with the Philistines, Elhanan, son of Jair, slew Lahmi, the brother of Goliath, the Gittite, whose spear's staff was like a weaver's beam. 6And in still another battle at Gath, there was a man of great stature, a son of the giants, with twenty-four fingers and toes - six on each hand and foot 7But when he defied Israel, David's nephew, Jonathan, son of Shimei, David's brother, slew him. 8These were descendants of the giants in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by his troops.
