Bridges, Matthew, was an Englishman born at Malden, Essex, England, July 14, 1800. He was educated in the Church of England, but became a convert to the Church of Rome in connection with the famous Tractarian movement led by [39]Cardinal Newman and others. For several years before his death he resided in the province of Quebec, Canada, where he died October 6, 1894.
