"By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments." As love to God must manifest itself in love to the brethren, so must it also in obedience to the divine commands. All these are, indeed, summed up by John in the one command whose requirement is love, which is the fulfilment of all.
