The Man with the Paralyzed Hand

1Nowa He entered the •synagogueb again, and a man was there who had a paralyzedc hand. 2In order to accused Him, they were watching Him closelye to see whether He would healf him on the Sabbath.g 3He told the man with the paralyzed hand, “Stand before us.”h 4Then He said to them, “Is it lawfuli on the Sabbath to do what is goodj or to do what is evil,k to save lifel or to kill? ”m But they were silent.n 5After looking around at them with angero and sorrow at the hardnessp of their hearts, He told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.q 6Immediately the •Phariseesr went out and started plottings with the •Herodianst against Him, how they might destroyu Him.

Ministering to the Multitude

7Jesusv departed with His disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee,w Judea,x 8Jerusalem,y Idumea, beyond the Jordan,z and around Tyreaa and Sidon.ab The large crowd came to Him because they heard about everything He was doing. 9Then He told His disciples to have a small boatac ready for Him, so the crowd would not crush Him. 10Since He had healedad many, all who had diseases were pressing toward Him to touchae Him. 11Whenever the •uncleanaf spiritsag saw Him, those possessed fell downah before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God! ”ai 12And He would strongly warnaj them not to make Him known.ak

13Thenal He went up the mountainam and summoned those He wanted, and they came to Him. 14He also appointed 12 — He also named them apostlesan, ao — to be with Him, to send them out to preach,ap 15and to have authority toaq drive out demons.

(that is, “Sons of Thunder”ay);

who also betrayed Him.

A House Divided

20Then He went home, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat.bg 21When His familybh heard this, they set out to restrain Him, because they said, “He’s out of His mind.”bi

22The •scribesbj who had come down from Jerusalem said, “He has •Beelzebulbk in Him! ” and, “He drives outbl demonsbm by the rulerbn of the demons! ”bo

23So He summonedbp them and spoke to them in parables:bq “How can Satanbr drive out Satan?bs 24If a kingdombt is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26And if Satan rebels against himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is finished!bu

27“On the other hand, no one can enter a strong man’s house and rob his possessions unless he first ties upbv the strong man. Then he will rob his house. 28•I assure you: People will be forgiven for all sinsbw and whatever blasphemiesbx they may blaspheme. 29But whoever blasphemesby against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness,bz but is •guiltyca of an eternal sin”cb,cc — 30because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”cd

31Thence His mothercf and His brotherscg came, and standing outside, they sent word to Him and called Him. 32A crowd was sitting around Him and told Him, “Look, Your mother, Your brothers,ch and Your sistersci are outside asking for You.”

33He replied to them, “Who are My mother and My brothers? ” 34And looking about at those who were sitting in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!cj 35Whoever does the will of Godck is My brother and sister and mother.”
