where the main force of the foreign army was advancing to meet him. Unknown to Jonathan, they had left a detachment of troops in ambush in the mountains,

and there in the plain the army of the foreigners met him; they had set an ambush against him in the mountains, but they themselves met him face to face.

Demetrius' army of foreign troops was waiting for them in the valleys. Some of them attacked immediately, while others waited behind some hills, ready to make a surprise attack.
